Action Required! Cyren has released Hotfix 2018-01 for all Cyren anti-malware products to ensure Windows updates can be applied. On January 3rd, 2018, Microsoft started releasing security updates due to newly revealed CPU security flaws referred to as Meltdown and Spectre. Although these updates were scheduled for release as part of the January 2018 Patch Tuesday - on January 9th - Microsoft chose to begin releasing the updates early upon the full disclosure of vulnerability details. Confirmed: All Cyren anti-malware products are fully compatible with the Windows security updates. Given the nature of the Meltdown and Spectre security flaws, Microsoft has warned that some security products may react badly to the security updates being delivered. As a result, Microsoft security updates cannot be offered until the installed anti-malware product actively confirms that it is compatible with the new patches. The Cyren product development has already tested all Cyren anti-malware products - including F-PROT and Command Anti-Malware - and verified that there will be no side-effects from applying the security updates. Due to the short notice in which the security flaws are being addressed, new product versions are not yet available that will perform the Windows updates green-lighting. For this reason, Cyren has prepared a hotfix update which will perform the necessary validation and then make sure all Windows security updates can resume to protect against the Meltdown and Spectre security flaws.
