Manual update of definitions
Posted by Gunnar Þór Jónsson on 09/02/2015 13:41

This article describes how to manually update the definitions for CSAM and other products using the Commtouch SDK technology.

Versions 5.1.21 and newer (engine 5.4.x)

Step 1 - Download the definition files to disk or removable media.

  1. Download http://avdl.ctmail.com/csav/deffiles/def5-2/antivir-v2-hit.ini

  2. Enter your credentials.
Note: You must use the license key instead of the legacy username/password combination for authentication. Use the key as both the username and password. If you are using Linux to get the file using wget, make sure you use the --http-user= and --http-passwd= options and enter the license key as both username and password.

  3. Extract the value from the defID=[value] line in the .ini file.
Example: "defId=201109011257" the value would be 201109011257

  4. Download the file:
    http://avdl.ctmail.com/csav/deffiles/def5-2/antivir-v2-c-[value].cab
and save it to disk or removable media.
For the previous example the path would be http://avdl.ctmail.com/csav/def5-2/antivir-v2-c-201109011257.cab

Step 2 - Merge the downloaded file with the current definitions.

At the command prompt change to C:\Program Files\Common files\Commtouch\Updater  and run

lua.exe applydefs.lua [path to antivir-v2-c-[value].cab]

For the example the command would be lua.exe applydefs.lua E:\antivir-v2-c-201109011257.cab assuming E:\ was the path the cab file was saved previously.

IMPORTANT for Windows Vista / 7 / 8 and Windows Server 2008 / 2012: You must run command prompt (cmd) with Elevated priviledges. Click Start, type cmd, then in the start menu search results right click the "cmd" and select Run as Administrator.
